Hong Kong dressing: humid outside, cold in the office

Closeed · September 18, 2026

33°C on the street, stuffy on the MTR, then freezing air-conditioning. Plan two layers, not one outfit.

Hong Kong is not one temperature. The street can be 33°C and humid, the train is stuffy, and the office air-conditioning is cold enough to regret a short-sleeve-only plan.

A breathable base

The piece on your skin should be light. A cotton shirt or tee you already own is enough. Thick knits and heavy denim stacks fail before you reach the station.

A thin layer you can take off

Keep a light shirt, cardigan, or thin jacket for the office. It stays off on the street and goes on at the desk. You are not packing a winter coat.

Rain is a separate note

If the forecast is wet, choose shoes and trousers you can actually walk in. A clean outfit that cannot survive the walk to the office is not a useful outfit.
