Look appropriate for work using only basics

Calm colours, one open layer

A blue check shirt worn open over a plain tee, with black or navy trousers, reads cleaner than the same shirt buttoned tight with no plan. Sleeves can be rolled once.

Shoes you can commute in

Clean sneakers or simple leather shoes you already own. The outfit fails if you cannot walk to the MTR in it.

Stop at neat

You are not trying to look like a magazine. Neat, covered, and consistent is the pass line for work.
